Kalakendra is a nonprofit, tax-exempt
organization formed in February 1987 and incorporated in the State of Oregon.
Kalakendra’s mission is to introduce, promote and enhance awareness of the
various performing arts of the Indian subcontinent through presenting concerts,
classical dances, recitals and lecture demonstrations
Kalakendra’s programs are supported by its sustaining members, grant awards from
local, state and national arts institutions, and donations from corporations and
private foundations.
Kalakendra, through its endowment fund, supports education of performing arts of India through offering scholarships, and arranging lecture demonstrations and workshops. The fund also supports dissemination of Indian classical music through donation of CDs to local libraries. The fund provides support for production of classical music CDs for the preservation of rare talent and show-casing of up and coming artists.
